For a closer look at area wildlife in a natural setting, Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge has hiking trails and educational programs to introduce visitors to local conservation efforts. Historians will appreciate the Old Capitol Building and State Capitol Campus. This group of historic buildings is open for tours and hosts special events throughout the year while providing a glimpse of early architecture and landscaping. The Olympic Flight Museum has an extensive collection of vintage aircraft and sponsors the annual Olympic Air Show in June. For a taste of the city, residents can pick up fresh produce grown by local farmers at an open-air market on summer weekends.

As the capital city, many government offices and services are located in Olympia as well as a variety of job opportunities in such career fields as technology, healthcare, recreation and tourism. Day trips to Seattle, one hour to the north, and Portland, a two-hour drive south, are easily within reach.
